I have been working on the background portion of the layout trying to incorporate the use of a mirror to give some depth to the scene. But after much thought and trying to make it work I have only a very small portion of the mirror being used. But I do have a bit of the red rocks and a canyon with steep walls similar to the grand canyon. So the artistic liberty has come in since the VT&S never did go any where near the red rocks.
Dean, did the trains come out of Jerome down the switch backs and then out of the mouth of the Hopewell tunnel and go to where? The road bed looks as if they went southeast to Cottonwood or whatever that is on sixth street at the slag pile. I have not researched that but just looked at the track arrangements or whatever is left of it. Dad
ReplyDeleteDad, The VT&S went from the smelter at Clarkdale to Jerome a distance of about eleven miles of track. At Hopewell the VT&S was loaded by the transfer bins from the ore cars that ran in the Hopewell haulage tunnel.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Verde extension RR was built it ran to Cottonwood from the smelter at Clarkdale by way of the old roadbed just blow our house and along the road to Cottonwood.
